Clifford Sutton is a percussionist and music educator with diverse experience in contemporary, orchestral, and world percussion. The winner of a 2011 Fulbright IIE Fellowship in Ethnomusicology, Dr. Sutton has devoted himself to the study and promotion of candombe, Afro-Uruguayan music and dance with the drum as its central instrument. He has given numerous presentations on the subject, including appearances at the 2012 Society for Ethnomusicology Annual Conference and the2013 Percussive Arts Society International Convention. A member of the Percussive Arts Society, World Percussion Committee, Dr. Sutton teaches courses in Latin American music and percussion at the University of Miami, where he also teaches classes through the Frost School of Music Preparatory Program. Additionally, he teaches percussion and directs ensembles at Miami Arts Charter School and Miami Dade College-Kendall.
