Ana Patricia Álvarez Ureña

Ana Patricia Álvarez UreñaBorn in the Dominican Republic, Ana Patricia aspires to change the position of classical music in her country through her playing. She began studying piano at Hogar de la Armonía Art School with professors Catherine Disla and Patricia Melis, with further training at Instituto de Cultura y Arte with Hilda Melis and Mercedes Machín. She obtained a B.M. and a Performance Diploma in Piano Performance from the Boston Conservatory, where she studied with Max Levinson. She is currently a Masters in Keyboard Performance candidate at the University of Miami under the guidance of Prof. Kevin Kenner.

Ana has won top prizes in the Concurso de Piano y Cuerdas del Cibao (2006), Manuel Rueda Piano Competition (2011), the Boston Conservatory Piano Honors Competition (2011), and Segundo Concurso Iberoamericano para Jóvenes pianistas(2016). She has performed in masterclasses with pianists Asaf Zohar and Jorge Luis Prats, and composer Louis Andriessen.

Ana is also committed to expanding access to classical music in the Dominican Republic. She performs solo recitals frequently in Santiago, her hometown. Further, she has taught piano and music theory privately and as a faculty member at Instituto de Cultura y Arte, Estudio Diná de Educación Musical, and Hogar de la Armonía Escuela de Arte. She was the Boston Conservatory Piano Department Assistant in 2014-2015. She is currently part of the piano faculty at the Frost Preparatory Program.
