Frost Chopin Academy

Mission Statement:

Offering piano students between the ages of 16-30 the opportunity to room and board for one week at the state-of-the-art facilities of the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, to exclusively immerse themselves in the works of Frederic Chopin and learn first-hand from the world’s most distinguished Chopin specialists. The Academy is an invaluable resource to any young pianist who is passionate about the music of Chopin and is looking to deepen his/her understanding of Chopin’s works. As a partner to the Chopin Foundation of the U.S., the Academy also shares the Foundation’s mission to encourage and prepare America’s new generation of talented pianists for participation in the 2020 National Chopin Competition and the 2020 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw.

In addition to individual lessons, active participants may also take part in an audition to perform one of the two Chopin Piano Concertos with string ensemble in concert, and participants may also be invited to perform in student recitals. It is the firm belief that the achievement of a fine Chopin interpretation requires not only practical guidance from teachers, but a broad, comprehensive encounter with Chopin’s world, his life and culture. For this reason our Academy also includes scholarly lectures by renowned Chopin experts. Afternoon workshops will address performance related issues in a group setting.

And as hard intensive work also needs moments of rest and entertainment, the Academy offers opportunities for students to go on outings to central Miami, one of the most dynamic and fun cities in the country.
